Certification of organic production - EU and KRAV

Version: KRAVs standard 2015, 2015-01-01

Kiwa Sweden offers auditing and certification in all the areas covered by the European Organic Regulations (EC) No 834/2007 and the Swedish KRAV standards for certified production. Our auditors have over 25 years of experience auditing organic production, along with sound knowledge of the whole food chain.

The European Organic Regulations (EC) No 834/2007 form the regulatory framework in this context. Certification under the EU’s rules gives a company the right to use the EU logo for organic production the Euro Leaf. Labelling has been mandatory on packaging since 1 July 2010.

KRAV’s standards build on the European Organic Regulations. In many cases, the rules are the same, but in some instances KRAV goes further, such as permitting fewer additives. Certification under KRAV’s standards gives a company the right to use both the KRAV label and the Euro Leaf in the areas for which the EU has rules in place.

The rules for KRAV certified production also include areas not governed by the European Organic Regulations. For example, it is possible to KRAV certify wild caught fish and to KRAV certify restaurants and caterers.

Who is this for?

Kiwa Sweden offers certification for the entire food chain:

Crop, nurseries, greenhouses, animal husbandry, beekeeping, mushroom growing, production aids and food processing, retail stores, caterers, restaurants, feed suppliers, wholesalers, distributors, importers, wild berries and mushrooms, and fishing and aquaculture.

When is this needed?

The market for organic produce is growing year on year. Sales statistics from food retailers suggest an increase in both branded goods and private-label goods. There is growing demand for organic options in raw produce and processed goods, both from consumers and from restaurants and caterers.

Certification of organic production under the EU’s organic rules or KRAV’s rules entitles you to market your production as organic and allows you to label your products with the EU logo and/or KRAV’s label.
